Winning Right

Drawing on his 20 years of experience in various political roles - including principal drafter of the 1994 Contract with America, communications expert, and guiding the Supreme Court confirmations of Justices John Roberts and Samuel Alito, Ed Gillespie is uniquely qualified to offer his insight on how we turn conservative principles into a governing philosophy for America. In "Winning Right", Gillespie discusses a political code of ethics, campaign successes and failures, the role of new media, and the future of the GOP.

Winning the Future

In his bestselling Winning the Future, former Speaker Newt Gingrich hones in on the challenges and opportunities facing America. He highlights the important of grassroots efforts and lays out a political plan for the new millennium.

South Park Conservatives

Brian Anderson’s new book is a “behind-the-scenes look at how conservatives—and even iconoclasts who don’t consider themselves conservative—are overthrowing the liberal media and political correctness. From the bloggers who demolished Dan Rather, to the Swift Boat veterans who sank John Kerry, to the gleeful anti–political correctness of such comedic send-ups as South Park and Team America, the American media landscape has suffered an earthquake. Conservatives who have fretted about liberal media bias and losing the culture war should take heart, because a new generation of "South Park Conservatives" is changing everything” (from the inside flap).

Why I'm A Reagan Conservative

Former Ronald Reagan advisor and bestselling author Michael K. Deaver gathers the nation's leading figures to define conservatism, explore Reagan's impact on  conservative philosophy, and examine what it means to be a conservative in America today.  In Why I Am a Reagan Conservative, the most powerful minds in politics and media come together to provide the reasons behind their beliefs, offer personal accounts of their time in politics and government, and explain the late Ronald Reagan's impact on the Grand Old Party.

A Matter Of Character

Ronald Kessler’s brilliant portrait of the White House years of George W. Bush is the gold standard by which all future biographies of this decent and principled president will be measured. —Edward Klein, author of The Kennedy Curse and former editor-in-chief of The New York Times Magazine.
Ronald Kessler’s inside, authoritative account of how George W. Bush has applied principled leadership to the tough task of defeating terrorism and preserving freedom should be read by everyone who cares about our national security. —William H. Webster, former director of Central Intelligence and former director of the FBI

The First American: The Life and Times of Benjamin Franklin

H W Brands

He was the foremost American of his day, yet today he is little more than a mythic caricature in the public imagination.  Benjamin Franklin, perhaps the pivotal figure in colonial and revolutionary America, comes vividly to life in this masterly biography.

A Deficit of Decency

In February of 2004, Senator Zell Miller delivered the speech "A Deficit of Decency" on the Senate floor. The speech considered the very soul of America and generated an unexpectedly massive response from people across the nation.

Expanding on this theme in his new book by the same title, former U.S. Senator and Georgia Governor Zell Miller identifies a wide range of issues—from media and sports role models, to the judiciary, to the decline of traditional Christian values of the family, responsibility and sacrifice—where an absence of decency is threatening the heart of America.

"A Deficit of Decency" addresses specific issues where Miller sees a need to return to a basic sense of duty. Miller writes in the preface, "There have been ten generations of Americans since this nation was founded….Each left this nation in a little better condition than they had inherited it from their parents. This is the first generation at risk of doing the opposite. Why? I have come to believe that it is because we failed to acknowledge and discipline ourselves with the spiritual truths that have made us great for these two hundred years—faith, family, country, values. This book is about how one man thinks they may be restored and yet save this great civilization from itself."

Bias

After more than 20 years as a national television network reporter, Bernard Goldberg got a phone call from a friend with a request: would he please take a look at a report filed by a colleague and see if that report wasn't inappropriately biased? Goldberg would, and he did. According to Goldberg, what he saw shocked him. There was a blatant "spin" in what was presented as news. But, he says, when he complained, he met with denials of wrongdoing and threats to his own career. You'll never see the TV news in the same way again after reading "Bias", and that may be a good thing. After all, problems often aren't addressed until enough people become aware of them. Goldberg is certainly doing his part to inform the public. Ironically, he's doing the job of a good - and unbiased – reporter.

Liberty! The American Revolution

This beautiful book was created as a companion piece to a public television production also entitled "Liberty! The American Revolution". The book is lavishly illustrated, mostly in full color, with accompanying text that is informative, interesting, and enjoyable to read. Even someone knowledgeable in American history will doubtless find some new and fascinating bits of Americana to chew on, and someone just in the process of learning more about his or her American heritage will be glad to have added this volume to the home library.

The Spirit of America

Subtitled "Words of Advice from the Founders in Stories, Letters, Poems, and Speeches", editor William J. Bennett adds commentary to give excerpts foundation and context. The historic writings are categorized into such groupings as "Patriotism and Courage" and "Civility and Friendship", even "Love and Courtship". Bennett forthrightly admits in his introduction that the founders weren't perfect men, but he says, "Their struggles should remind us only that the perfect is the enemy of the good. If we fall short, there is no reason to despair, only more reason to try harder." Bennett's "Spirit of America" can inspire us to do just that.

More Guns, Less Crime

"More Guns, Less Crime" is a seminal book in the examination of the effectiveness of carrying concealed weapons against crime. Dr. John Lott has created a highly readable abstract of his in-depth study examining every county in the US over two decades, a vast expansion on previous studies which concentrated only on limited and specific areas. His conclusions, layed out in complete and understandable form in his book, were a surprise even to himself. Lott also freely discusses the firestorm of controversy that resulted from his work (to date, despite concerted efforts to disprove Lott's findings, over two dozen independent researchers have confirmed his results, and some have even expanded on them).

Back to Basics

Michael Zak is the author of Back to Basics for the Republican Party, the acclaimed history of the GOP from the civil rights perspective.  From the first page of the book: "As you know, Democrats control most of the media, but they also write most of the history books, thereby controlling what even Republican activists think they know about our Party's glorious heritage."

As he says, "The more we Republicans know about the history of our Party, the more the Democrats will worry about the future of theirs."
